It is so easy to be loving and supportive of the delightful little angels we call our children. But the reality is mummy's little angles are not always perfect. What parents need to remember is that children do not deliberately set out to be bad and that mistakes are integral to learning.
Here are some ideas on how to cope with children who make mistakes:
BE OPEN TO MISTAKES. Ensure that ur childrens are in an environment where mistakes are not frowned upon. Recognize their efforts and let them know you appreciate they are doing their best & that mistakes are a part of learning.
BE POSITIVE. Be encouraging at all times and stay away from labeling them or accusing them of misdeeds. Questioning their actions and shouting out your displeasure can do irreparable damage and distance you from your child.
BE REALISTIC. The child's surroundings should not be laden with fear and anxiety. Giving priority to expensive decor and reminding children of the consequences if breaking items around the house does not create a conducive learning environment. Childrens cannot appreciate these things from an adult perspective.
BE A GOOD ROLE MODEL. Children learn to imitate the behaviour they see. So make an effort to react to mistakes positively so that your childrens develop the ''culture'' of owning up to mistakes and learning from them.
BE EMPATHETIC. It is possible that how you deal with your child's mistakes could be reflection of the difficulty you face when trying to cope with your own. If you can accept this possibility, then your children's mistakes may not be an issue.
There are very few chances in life to right a wrong. So it is well worth making an effort to handle such situations with care. Discipline coated with love can bring about remarkable changes.
